A King’s Dream Land

The myth lives on!:  After 122 years after his mysterious death in Lake Starnberg, many fans of King Ludwig the II still celebrate his birthday on the 25^th of August. His Majesty was obsessed with castle architecture and loved the Bavarian mountains. Near Garmisch-Partenkirchen at an elevation of 1,800 Meters King Ludwig II built his dream mountain home the „Schachen“ right next to the highest Botanical Garden in all of Germany. Castle “Neuschwanstein” has attained world recognition, and not only for Walt Disney’s rendition. Directly next to it lies “Hohenschwangau”, the summer home of Ludwig II’s parents. He also built Castle “Linderhof” with it’s famous Venus Grotto.
